Silver Marriage Certificate Holder

February 4, 2008

Ever since seeing this post about Ketubot on Wedding Bee, I’ve been wishing that my culture had some sort of gorgeous piece of art that symbolized and spelled out the commitment that my fiance and I will make to eachother come late 2008.

Unfortunately, the nearest I’ve found is this certificate holder from Weddings by Dezign:

Silver Marriage Certificate Holder

I know that it is shaped so that it can hold your rolled-up marriage certificate, but all I can do is picture it sitting on someone’s mantle next to the urn holding dear aunt Eunice.

Perhaps a better name for this site would have been MorbidWeddingCrap.com. No matter, if you’re looking for a way to forever preserve your marriage certificate in a manner that I find both tacky and creepy, you can pick up one of these scroll-holders for just $20.45 at Weddings by Dezign.

Or in the freezer next to the top part of your wedding cake. You know what would crank up the tackiness up a notch with that holder? If you laminate the certificate before you put it in the holder. Make it look like a placemat at a casual dining restaurant.

I’m sure that if I looked hard enough I could find a wedding certificate laminating kit.

When I moved to Texas and got a drivers license there I thought that I’d get my new DL right there at the DMV. Not the case. They took my old Oregon ID and gave me a piece of paper straight from a printer. Sure, it had a seal, but it was nothing that I couldn’t have made at home. And no photo! Fortunately I was a teacher at the time and I had unlimited access to a laminating machine. I used that and made my temporary license look a bit more official and waterproof.

I am ashamed to admit that my husband’s estranged, pot-smoking, trailer-dwelling aunt sent us one of these. It’s currently in the “THRIFT SHOP” donation box…

Okay, it does look a little like a toilet paper roller. But, I guess if the marriage ever goes sour, it can be put to good use in the bathroom.

This looks like something that used to kill a spouse on CSI: Miami.

Amazing, my fiance’s parents have something like this, but uh, they don’t actually have anything in it…

I also picture it sitting near a dearly departed loved one who happens to look much like a potted plant.

The phallic imagery of a long cylinder representing “marriage” is undeniable.

Got one for my first baby’s birth certificate. It’s hidden in the closet, because…too creepy!

Ummm, yeah. Will it hold an extra large rool of toilet paper though? Go for something more awarding. Like maybe a beautiful frame. What about a small treasure chest? the treasure would be your folded marriage certificate. Something, anything would be better than that. Good Luck.

Wow, that IS something! I don’t know if this will help but maybe you should check out a site like this one to see if you could find something a bit more fitting or at least something that will look nice in your home.

Ugly! My inlaws had theirs painted on a plate. It looks like something from a 2nd grade ceramic class.

It does kinda of looking like a toilet paper holder. I do not know why you would want to roll it up and stick it in something to put on display though?
