Engaged to Consumerism

May 22, 2007

This is the inaugural post on StupidWeddingCrap.com. This site was conjured up when I came to some realizations and points of confusion:

  1. I’m getting married.
  2. What am I supposed to do now?
  3. Maybe the Internet can help.
  4. There is no way in the world people are actually out there buying hay bale wedding favors
  5. Maybe the Internet is full of crap.
  6. Wait, if people weren’t buying hay bale wedding favors, wouldn’t those companies just go out of business?
  7. I am not going to have any hay bale wedding favors.
  8. Do people really need wedding favors anyways?
  9. The typical magazine-cover wedding seems to consist of a lot of expensive crap that people don’t need. See “One Perfect Day: The Selling of the American Wedding“, but I’ve never been to a wedding that actually involved hay bale wedding favors.

Stick with me as I explore the underbelly of the wedding industry. I’ll be posting stories from wedding party members, pictures of truly horrific wedding-themed tchochkes, and figuring out how the heck to plan a nuptial celebration. Hopefully, one that involves as little stupid wedding crap as possible.

Mine would be made out of brownies. Maybe I should just have a brownie buffet.

If you had a brownie buffet at your wedding you would seriously be my personal hero!
