Bride and Groom Bear Bubbles Favors
June 6, 2007
There’s a dark secret in my family. A secret which I have managed to not write about on the Internet for more than three years. Okay, so it isn’t really a secret about my family. Rather it is about my mom’s boyfriend’s ex-wife’s parents, people who are really not related to me any more than the people I ride the bus with every morning.
These folks (ex-wife’s in-laws, not people on the bus) are bear-lovers. Crazy bear lovers. Oh, not the type of people who just have the occasional bear decoration around the house or enjoy wearing t-shirts covered in bears. No, these folks have a serious bear obsession that goes beyond anything you or I could call normal. Their home is filled with bears of all shapes and sizes; miniature bears, bear pillows, bear bar stools, bear sculptures and statues. They have so much bear stuff that they keep a lot of it in storage and rotate it in and out on a seasonal basis.
What’s more, they have two teddy bears that they treat as people. One of the bears stays at home and the other one travels. Yes, the bear travels around the United States wearing regionally appropriate dress (bandannas in Montana, aviator goggles at Kittyhawk) and is carried from site to site as though it were a small developmentally disable child. Except it is a teddy bear. A teddy bear that appears in hundreds of vacation photos.
The folks with the bears have been married for over 30 years, but if they plan on renewing their vows anytime soon, I will definitely be suggesting that they pick up these bride and groom teddy bear bubble wedding favors. At Brides’ Village, these favors are just $6.85 for a box of 12, which makes them the cheapest thing yet featured on StupidWeddingCrap.com.

I would rather receive some cool bar stools or retro furniture from here: http://www.americanchairs.com

There is nothing wrong with having a stuffed traveling companion. Not so sure about the regionally-appropriate costuming, though.

What about a stuffed traveling companion that you talked to as though it was your own little furry child?

Those people are sick. I feel sorry for when they die the relatives that inherit the bears. Even though if I were the couple with the bear obsession I would put in my will to donate the collection to charity. I thought my Grandma is weird she has at least 300 puzzles.
